About Pagoda

Why is Pagoda needed? Pagoda or Stupa is an architectural structure that is the symbol of Awakening from the sleep of ignorance. It symbolizes the pure state of mind that has realised the essence of things as well as cessation of negative emotions and suffering.

Stupa radiates a very powerful flow of positive energy due to relics and artefacts that are stored in it. This energy extends not only to those who are near Stupa, but also to all surrounding areas. Depending on the power of Stupa’s sacred relics, its beneficial effect can extend over long distances – up to many hundreds of kilometres. In addition, it reduces the risk of environmental and climatic cataclysms, such as floods, drought, etc. Latvian Stupa of Enlightenment enshrines over 2500 rare relics and a library of over 1,000 books and manuscripts, some of which are originals and exist in one copy only.

History

The idea to construct Peace Pagoda first appeared in 2000, with the entry into the new millennium. Circumstances developed slowly and several projects were unsuccessful until 2008, when a group of Himalaya piligrims from Latvia were granted an audience with the Spiritual Leader of Tibet in Dharmasala, India.
During the audience His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama blessed the group and his parting words were following: ‘May your work bring both physical and mental happiness to all living beings’. After that everything began to develop without any special obstacles.

Out of 12 land plots selected from all over Latvia only one was identified and marked as a ‘heart of Latvia’ by the 16th reincarnation of Tulku Yudra Rinpoche.
Many Teachers joined the project, however, general spiritual patronage for Stupa’s Construcion as well as ‘Peace Stupa Foundation’ was led by His Holiness Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang Rinpoche. It was Rinpoche who provided canonically accurate drawings of the Peace Pagoda.

Many Enlightened Lamas such as His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche, Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche, Nuba Rinpoche, Trangu Rinpoche, Dza Raniak Patrul Rinpoche, Sogyal Rinpoche and others wrote their words of encouragement and granted sacred relics for the Latvian Peace Pagoda, the Stupa of Enlightenment.

Stupa is adorned with the special blessing from the Rigdzin Line also known as the Holders of Rigpa, those who have realized the True Nature of Mind.
Large Statue of Guru Rinpoche is placed in the vase of Stupa. It contains various important relics, including the hair of Guru Rinpoche himself.
The total number of all Stupa’s relics is more than two thousand.

The Ingredients and Sacret objects were obtained from all Three Great Stupas of the Himalayas (Swayambu, Bouda and Namo Buddha). This is the colossal centre of virtue and impartial compassion, accumulated now in one place, in Latvia.

Blessings that descend upon a man circumambulating Stupa cannot be overestimated. In Tibet a person could accomplish high spiritual attainments, and get rid of all his ailments in the place like that. The state of meditation comes naturally and effortlessly in here. Everyone feels as if he comes in contact with something extraordinary.

A large number of people were involved in various construction stages of Stupa.
The fruition of these spiritual endeavours and physical execution could only occur with a good motivation and joyful efforts of all participants of the construction.

Peace Pagoda became some sort of a ‘bridge’ uniting the East and the West, making the exchange of experience possible, both at the level of modern Western construction technologies and the expansion of useful Knowledge that can now only be found in the culture of the ancient Himalayas.

The ecological and environmental impact of the Peace Pagoda cannot be overestimated. For centuries such structures have been pillars of peace and balance in the Himalayas . In places where Stupas were built, social stability rised and everything was filled with content. Soil became fertile, natural cataclysms ended, the time of prosperity came and people became happier.
